Beeping refrigerators
Does this bother anybody but me?
It's always seemed to me a pointless exercise to have a fridge beep at its user when the door has been left open. I find that, usually --
If the user is in the room when the fridge beeps at him, he generally knows that the fridge is open -- for example, he is making a delicious Ovaltine milkshake, and has the milk and ice-cream out at the same time, knowing that he'll put them back in a minute. In this instance, a beeping fridge is unnecessary and annoying.
In the second instance, let's say I've made my Ovaltine milkshake and I've already gone upstairs to drink it. It takes something like forty-five seconds before the fridge begins to beep. By that point, I'm upstairs and firmly ensconced in the drinking of my milkshake. I'm not going to hear the beep -- on the one occasion that it might actually help me.
Does nobody sit down and take the time to design these things properly?

Not every one lives in a middle class suburban home like yours. Not many people have an upstairs to go to, or complains about the noise above any wasted energy that will only translate into a higher electricity bill at the end of the month.

Ah, that old chestnut. If a fridge beeps in the kitchen, does it make a sound?

Yes, it does.
If we define "beep" as "make a sound", which, funnily enough, is exactly what we do.
Re the bad bitches... Godspeed, my son.
